Introduction

The website "Islamic and Middle Eastern Law Online" is an E-Learning-Platform designed to provide basic knowledge of classical Islamic law and its current development and application in Middle Eastern countries. . The content of this website is based on the lecture “Islamic and Middle Eastern Law” given by Prof. Andrea Büchler, University of Zurich, Switzerland, and covers several fields of Islamic and Middle Eastern law, such as the history and sources of the Sunni school of law and jurisprudence, personal status law, penal law, human rights, and an insight into contemporary scholarly debates. In addition, this website will offer links to the “Laws and More” section of the CIMELS website as well as selected sources from the World Wide Web. Furthermore, the website features a glossary that includes basic terminology of Islamic law and jurisprudence.
